Loon in the Mist I

Loons in the Mist I
16 x 20 acrylic 1987
c/o N. Lasenby

One of a pair of loons painted while residing in the country along the St.Clair river. Evidently Loons mate for life and I tried to capture the concept of two loons calling to each other on a misty lake.
I've always had an interest in wildlife since I can remember spending much time wandering around the forests ,water areas and fields collecting and observing the local flora and fauna in the area we lived.
At the time of painting this,Canadian wildlife painter Robert Bateman may have been at his peak of popularity I appreciated his repect for the Canadian wildlife and he consideres himself more of a naturalist such as an Audubon illustrator, then an artist he takes a very scientific approach to his paintings using accurate info about enviromental habitats of each animal he paints,I could relate to his passion for the subject and I think we share that commonalitiy. I think his paintings helped to raise awareness of the greatness and importance of our unique Canadian wildlife.
