Beginning with a mountain

"Icescape"
30" x 24" oil/ masonite 1982
A.C.

My first painting was this Icescape done in Toronto while in Gr.11 art class...
.A year prior living in Sarnia  I went on a class trip ( Gr 10) to the McMicheal Art Gallery located in Kleinburg( north of Toronto) Its focus is in Canadian Art both Indegionous and 'Group of Seven' paintings the visit was impactful since that was my first big gallery exposure, and it had a lot of energy and creativity .
I like the Group of Sevens outdoor sketches or plein air painting best, The nature of painting outdoors, with light that changes quickly and the patterns and vibrant colours all coming together in a dynamic and harmonious composition was very inspiring much like the French impressionists and post impressionists use of colour light and plein air painting approach that it was derived from.
Tube paint invention just prior, opened up the possibility, to paint outside more easily, to capture natural light on figures or landscapes takes planning , and a quick focused approach, if your hoping for a complete colour model or sketch , to then perhaps be made larger and more refined indoors under more accomadating shelter.
